Being Thrifty

Those of you that know me outside of bloggy world, know that prior to Chris starting school, we did everything together. We'd make breakfast and eat it together, eat lunch together at work, come home, take Kodi for a jog, make dinner together, and do some sort of house project together before heading to bed. I really miss those days, but I know there's a light at the end of the tunnel...one more semester!!! Chris is currently on his summer break before his final semester starts in a few weeks, so that's why he pops up in so many posts here recently.

Chris came home from work on Monday and told me to hurry up and hop in the truck. He found some roadside treasures that he wanted to get before it started raining. Yep, we dumpster dive, and now we take other people's garbage. (One man's garbage is another man's treasure...or something like that, right?!)

We're on a sort of organizing kick right now...I did the mail holder this week, we've got plans for our closet, and we've been trying to figure out a good way to organize our garage.  Chris saw a large bookcase on the side of the road that he thought would work perfectly for our paint cans.  Smart Hubby!

We got home and got it in the garage, and by the time I came back out with my camera, he'd already had the whole thing filled up, so all you get is an after picture!

It fits perfectly into the little nook next to our water heater, and now I have one place specific to go to when I'm looking for paint on the fly.  What a great find!

Oh, and P.S. He's the smartest husband in the whole wide world. He got an A in his Wireless Communications class this summer...go Chris!!

I'm linking up to the fun parties in my links tab, go check them out!

  1. Hey now, nothing wrong with a little dumpster diving. Just because the person throwing it out wasn't clever enough to figure out how to use or improve something doesn't mean you should miss out! I know I could certainly use more organization in my house so you and your husband can be a shining example to us all! I also miss those days when my husband and I did everything together so I know exactly how you feel. Glad there's a light at the end of it for you guys!

  2. Can I store my paint cans in there too? Maybe not, looks like Chris filled it up too quick.

  5. visit your blog all the time.. love it!
be careful with this set up tho!!
everything you have on that shelf (just about) if flamable. and you have it next to fire.. if by chance a fire did break out.. your home owners wouldnt cover the damage due to you placing all this next to a open flame (water heater) I wouldnt say anything but we got in trouble for this very thing! each ins is diff so you might wanna see how far you have to store things from heater/water heater and that sort of thing..
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK.. you inspire me!!!

  7. Sourkraut - Thank you so much for the sweet comments!!
E - No way, that's why we needed a whole bookcase for it...I keep getting MORE!
    SS - Done! And thanks!
Dutchie - Maybe I should've said anything that's liquid bookcase?! He saw a few empty holes and shoved more stuff in!
HoleyCow D - Thank you SO incredibly much for posting a warning here, I so appreciate it! We actually have an electric water heater, not a gas, so the bookcase is actually not next to a fire, but I don't know that I would've thought of it if it was! Always better safe than sorry, thanks again for keeping your eye out for us! And thanks for the sweet comment, my readers inspire me to keep doing things and posting them!
Ann - Hope to 'see' you around!!
